Two-year Certificate Course
Aims and Objectives
Summarised according to four interrelated categories: Musical, Movement, Personal & Social and General & Artistic. The knowledge and skills acquired can be applied in a variety of contexts.
Musical aims
- the study of music and musical phenomena, in particular all forms of musical rhythm in and through movement; the expansion of the ability to experience and express music
- development of aural perception, listening, inner hearing and feeling
- development of automatisms
- musical analysis in real time
- musical literacy
Movement aims
- improvement of the sense of balance, body awareness, co-ordination and economy of movement
- development of a good use of space, personal and shared
- development of the neuro-muscular system and independence and co-ordination of the limbs
- use of the breath
- ear, eye, hand co-ordination
Personal and Social aims
- development of the ability to share time and space with others, to work alone, in pairs and in groups of various sizes
- ensemble skills, leading and following
- development of the ability to respond quickly and appropriately
- the ability to communicate ideas clearly and respond to those of others
General Artistic aims
- an understanding of music-movement relationships, technical and expressive
- the ability to generate own ideas from the ideas of others
- the ability to interpret the works of others and create original work
- the ability to improvise and compose
- development of critical and analytical faculties
- artistic sensitivity
- an understanding of the principles, practice and applications of Dalcroze Eurhythmics in various fields including music and related arts, performance and teaching
